We’ve all sometimes been told “drive it to ‘done’!” and in those moments, hear implicit or explicit instructions to impose an imperative on the people around us. As those who practice leadership, we can work with this by shifting what we drive. Instead of “driving” people, we can “drive” the creation of the conditions for those people to be able to show up as the best versions of themselves and do their best work. In us doing so, they’ll get the work to “done”, now with improved understanding and skill to get there on their own, repeatedly.
